Photo505 vs. Photofunia

This is my review on two of the photo editing websties we were given. These two seemed the easiest to compare so that is why I am using them. Let me just say that both are extremely easy to use. All you have to do in order to make a funny or artistic photo on either of these websites is a photo to be uploaded, thats it. So I used photobooth the mac program in order to take a picture of myself to use on both webpages. Here is the pic:
Flattering isn't it?

Lets start with a quick comparison of the same basic picture concept.

          Photo505                                                                       Photofunia

Both can offer some realistic depictions of whatever it is your trying to portray but nine times out of ten photofunia is going to offer better results. Photo505 can be good but a lot of the effects don't tend to work out very well, for instance:

As you can see the face did not blend well and it looks unnatural and rather hysterical.
With photofunia I tended to get much better results like these pictures:

The pictures tend to look much more natural. Both programs are hysterical I just feel as though photofunia does a much better job at what it does.

Winner: Photofunia
  • This site offers tons of effects to put your taken picture into. Its cool because it tends to do a better job then other websites (photo505).
  • Extremely easy to use, try it for yourself.
  • Not nearly as in depth as photoshop. Photoshop is professional, this is mostly for a quick laugh.
  • Anyone ranging from kids to parents, the only audience this website seems to miss is the professionals but like I said this website does not compare to photoshop at all.
  • Both websites I looked at are great for a quick laug or share on facebook/email.
  • Absolutely. I think anyone can enjoy this simple website.
Loser: Photo505
  • This site offers all the things described earlier it just doesn't tend to do a very good job. It does however seem to do well at having modern effects or pop culture references (iron man 2).
  • Extremely easy
  • If photofunia doesn't compare to photoshop then this website is completely off the grid.
  • Anyone except experts, I'd recommend photofunia though.
  • -
  • No this website does the same thing as photofunia but it doesn't do nearly as good a job.

Abstract Art Project

  • We had to make a piece of abstract art work using photoshop.
  • I basically went crazy as far as approach. I used mostly the brush but I didn't really have much of  a strategy when I started working.
  • The marla video inspired me.
  • Surprisingly I think it turned out pretty good considering I only used the brush and filters.
  • There is nothing I feel the need to add at this time.

Visual Puns

  • We were to take images and create a visual pun.
  • I had to think for a while on what to make once I had something I tried to make it look artistic but humorous at the same time. I used filters to keep it looking artistic and effects.
  • I was inspired by whatever words that came into my head during the brainstorming phase, I was also inspired by the images that came up during the google search.
  • I'm generally happy, there are somethings that stick out to me that I was unable to fix for instance the coca cola logo.
  • There is nothing I can really think of adding at this current moment in time.

Psychic

  • Just something I was messing around with at the beginning of the year
  • Tried to make a scene in which a psychic demonstates his abilites
  • I followed a psd tut that inspired me
  • I think it turned out ok based on my prior skill with photoshop

4 Square

  • We took a picture of something in or around the school and then we duplicated it into four images that we were required to design/render.
  • I first arranged the images in a way that made it appealing rather then just the four images being the same angle or face. I then darkened each one slightly more then the other so I had a varying degree of burn. I stylized the images then added a shadow to make i look darker.
  • I liked this project, I saw how people were making each image a different color but I wanted to do something different and keep the images original color. I think all the power in this image comes from the use of shadow.
  • There is nothing more I feel the need to add this was a fun way to use the shadowing tools to really make an image pop.

Negative Zone

  • We were to take an image of a person and photo shop something behind him so when we remove him it would make a negative image.
  • I used wordle as much as possible as I find it to be a very useful tool, other then that I just fooled around with the given images.
  • The original images and backgrounds inspired me.
  • I liked this project and I think it came out pretty nice.

15 Green Things

  • We had to take 15 green images and use them together to make our own image.
  • I tried to use all the images in a meaningful way to make them blend and I used certain artistic effects to make that happen.
  • I used the images in a way inspired by each image and their own unique properties.
  • I am very satisfied with this image considering the images i had to use.
  • There is nothing else I feel like adding.

Name Game

- I used the letter T to create a pattern (by copying, pasting, and flipping) on a red background. I then used the gradient tool to add shadow. After that I copied and blended the layer followed b posting the man into the pic.
-I used the letter T for most of the pic, the man is supposed to represent the T pattern.
-My name inspired me.
- I'm satisfied with it but I think there may be too much shadow. I like it though, maybe next time I won't use so much shadow.

Crazy Combo

Crazy Combo Assignment
-We were supposed to take images (normally of animals) and use them to create one creature.
-After finding a pretty cool background I used only images that came up in the google image search for music. With these images I created the creature above.
-The images I found in the search inspired me to create the creature. To start off I had no idea what it would look like.
-I'm satisfied with the work at this time, I like the artistic filter I think it fits the image well. Maybe next time I will do a different search.

Color Replacement

We were supposed to take images and restore color to only certain aspects.
I choose the main focuses of the images for the planets and person pictures. For the crowd picture I created a pattern using the color replacement tool.
Single colors or important aspects inspired me.
I am satisfied with the work and it was good practice with the color replacement tool.
There is nothing I would like to add at this time.

Music Project

I used a psd picture then edited it to create this one.
After following the assigned instructions I used textures, copy and paste, burning, and tricks with the brush tool to create the customized final picture.
The background inspired me to do something 1969-1970s flower power related.
Im satisfied with the finished project due to the assignment giving me leeway for artistic style.
